An attractive, detached former Bank that has been sympathetically converted into a 2-bedroom bungalow with a light and airy atmosphere, oil-fired central heating, double-glazing, off-street parking and an easily maintained garden, set in a small village that joins Common Land.
This single-storey detached property was built in the 1930's by Midland Bank to serve the local agricultural community, from stone and brick walls, with part rendered and part slate hung elevations, under a slate roof. In 2004 it was restored and converted into a bungalow with immense charm and character, works included the installation of new double-glazed windows, kitchen and bathroom suites, oil-fired central heating, re-wiring, etc. The Old Bank is like "The Tardis in Dr Who" in that it looks small on the outside because of its disproportionately tall windows and 11' high ceilings to the main parts. It has a light and airy atmosphere and retains some character features to include an imposing entrance door, hardwood panelling, herringbone parquet flooring.
Penybont is a small village set in the Ithon Valley, bordered by an unspoilt area of Common Land and near the impressive Llandegley Rocks. The village has a traditional Coaching Inn, Community Centre, Garden Centre, football club and a Race Course (two horse racing meetings - trotting and flat) . Penybont Railway Station on the Shrewsbury to Swansea line is roughly a mile away and there is a choice of two primary schools at Dolau and Crossgates, 3 and 2 miles distant, the latter being set at the intersection of the A44 and A483 and having a Service Station (with Nisa convenience store & café). The Old Bank is located in the centre of the village beside the A44, has a Southerly aspect and the garden backs onto a small paddock.
Llandrindod Wells is the County Town and administrative centre of Powys and has a good range of shops, business facilities, Tesco Superstore, Aldi Supermarket, successful schools, Cottage Hospital, Railway Station (Shrewsbury to Swansea line) and Bus Station. Excellent leisure amenities include a sports centre, indoor and outdoor bowls (International quality), historic 18-hole Golf Course, Theatre, game and coarse fishing. The market towns of Rhayader and Builth Wells are 10 and 12 miles distant, and the border towns of Knighton, Kington and Presteigne are 14 to 16 miles, and Newtown is 25 miles. The coastal resort and University Town of Aberystwyth and the City of Hereford are both about an hour's drive, with Cardiff, Swansea, Worcester and the Severn Bridge around a 1½ hour drive (dependent on traffic conditions). Llandrindod Wells is a fine Victorian Spa Resort and in Rightmove surveys the LD1 Post Code area was declared "the friendliest place to move to in the UK in 2015" and in 2017, 2019 and 2020 Llandrindod was named "the Happiest Town in Wales" (this year 4th for whole UK).
